In 2008, BOA registered in California as BOA Life LLC and incorporated web and graphic design as well as artist management to the original event production and marketing repertoire of services.
BOA Events was founded in 2005 by Mikaela Pollock and Katie Pomerantz to produce nightlife events in China's capital, Beijing. BOA once stood for “Beijing’s Other Attractions” and was known as the producer of “alternative” events, focusing on markets previously unexplored by other production agencies (LGBT, international indie artist touring, fundraisers, etc.). Turns out, besides being the moniker for a certain tropical reptile, BOA also means “good” in Portuguese.
Our philosophy has always been that music and art are the best ambassador, building bridges between cultures and connecting people through common experiences. As international relations majors, BOA’s founders believe that in a highly politicized world divided by ethnic, racial, religious and cultural lines, music and art hold the power to cross these lines and educate on a level that goes beyond the mind to the heart and soul.
BOA provides full service web and graphic design services. We specialize in corporate branding (logos, advertisements, graphics, websites) and websites and marketing materials for artists. From static landing pages to dynamic, interactive 70+ page websites, BOA has and can do it all. Most of our websites are designed to be easily updated by clients themselves meaning that you won’t have to pay for a programmer to make minor changes (although we'll be happy to do it for you if you prefer)! We focus on accessable, clean sites that promote your company or service in the best light possible. Check out some of our work, HERE. Projects include: www.boaevents.com, www.rise-fall.com, www.frontlinemgmt.net, www.nextmusicgroup.com, www.maskinoperator.com, www.abbytravis.com, www.outfest.org and maintenance for www.lapride.org.
While most of our event concepts are developed in-house, we do accept consulting contracts and can provide a full range of event production services. Our expertise is in music-oriented nightlife events and fundraising events for non-profits.
From BOA’s humble beginnings running a bi-monthly lesbian party at Beijing’s premiere gay club to promoting for some of the world’s top DJs, BOA Events clawed it’s way to the top of Beijing’s nightlife in just a few short years. BOA Events has always been about top quality on a shoestring budget, creating unforgettable experiences without breaking the bank. Our honest and thorough service gained us recognition with China’s best nightclubs and led us to work with embassies and corporate clients to produce some of China’s most groundbreaking events. Events produced in China include: I Love EU: Electronic Music Festival in honor of the European Union's 50th Anniversary (10 artists from 6 EU countries, 2 cities, sponsored by 7 embassies and 5 corporations), Electrocution (one of Beijing's first regular electro nights), The Pinker Tones China Tour (2006), Addicted to Fiction China Tour (2006), Intercom China Tour (2006), DJ Ipek Tour China (2005 and 2007) and promotions/marketing for Beijing's premier nightlife venues Banana and Coco Banana with top 100 DJs such as John Digweed, Paul van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Carl Cox, Deep Dish, Armin van Buuren and more.
BOA relocated to Los Angeles in 2007. In addition to promoting various events in the L.A. area, in fall 2009 BOA produced an original event series Rise&Fall; an art and music exhibition commemorating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. Rise&Fall featured art from about 100 artists interpreting the theme 'bringing down walls'. The art was displayed on Kodak picture frames and was accompanied by the music of Turkish-German 'barrier-transcender' DJ Ipek Ipekcioglu. Rise&Fall toured 10 cities (from L.A. to Boston) in 3 weeks and earned space in the Boston Globe, Washington Post, Miami New Times, Village Voice, LA Weekly and on PRI's "The World" amongst dozens of other press outlets.
BOA was also contracted to produce BOOM! 2008: Outfest Music Festival and, in the same year, produced a few shows for touring acts. BOA has collaborated with Kodak, The Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany, The German Consulates in L.A., New York, Miami and Boston, Goethe Institute L.A., German Embassy Beijing, Instituto Cervantes, British Council China, Italian Embassy Beijing, Austrian Embassy Beijing, The Minsheng Bank, Austrian Airlines, Turkish Airlines and many more. We honestly couldn't produce cultural-based music and art events without these partners; we genuinely thank them for their generous support.
BOA Life provides artist management services to musicians and DJs who want to retain their indie freedom while getting the guidance and support they need to succeed. We specialize in live electronic acts and DJs from Europe. BOA provides its artists with tour management, booking and general management services.
Our current artists are DJ Ipek (Turkey/Germany) and Maskinoperator (Sweden). BOA is also the booking agent for LA-based musician, Cassidy Haley. While we accept unsolicited submissions, BOA maintains a limited roster in order to better serve our clients. Please take a look at our website and check out the artists we have worked with to see if you might be a fit before submitting. In general, we like to work with up-and-coming dance artists, primarily in the Electro genre (though we’ve been known to have a soft spot for drum’n’bass too). We never knock it ‘til we’ve tried it, though, so feel free to contact us if you think you have something really special to offer!
If you’re going for a big impact and want to connect with a local audience and generate press, BOA believes that events are the best way to market and promote companies, countries and artists. Please refer to our section on Events.
If you want to reach potential clients, fans or customers easily worldwide, then BOA can’t emphasize an awesome website and great branding enough! Please refer to our section on Web and Graphic Design.
